03 Jul Business Bamboo Hedge Eradication: A Complete Project at IMALC
At Bambou Clean, we regularly intervene for bamboo eradication in businesses, offices, industrial zones, and professional buildings. Recently, our team worked at IMALC to remove an invasive bamboo hedge from the front of the building and completely redevelop the area.
The objective was clear: permanently eliminate the bamboo and its rhizomes, then create a durable, aesthetic, and easy-to-maintain landscape using a geotextile membrane and decorative gabions.
A Bamboo Hedge That Became Problematic
Initially planted for its decorative and screening qualities, the bamboo hedge had progressively spread across the entire front of the building.
As is often the case with running bamboos, the problem was not limited to the visible culms. The rhizomes extended underground along the entire length of the plant bed, and several new shoots were already appearing near the building.
This type of growth is common when bamboos have been in place for several years without an adequate containment system. Rhizomes discreetly spread through the soil and can colonize increasingly large areas over time.
Complete Eradication of Bamboo and Rhizomes
Our intervention began with the removal of the entire bamboo hedge on the facade.
Using a mini-excavator, we proceeded with the complete excavation of the plant bed to access the rhizome networks present in the soil.
Unlike simply cutting the bamboo, eradication requires the extraction of rhizomes. Without this step, new shoots reappear a few months later, sometimes several meters from the original plant bed.
The entire area was therefore excavated and then manually inspected to remove any remaining rhizomes in the ground.
Rhizomes Present at the Base of the Building
During the work, several rhizomes were identified in the immediate vicinity of the facade.
The site photos clearly show their presence in contact with the infrastructure and their ability to bypass various obstacles in the soil.
This situation perfectly illustrates the vigor of certain bamboo species and the importance of a complete intervention when an infestation is observed.
Redevelopment of the Front Area with Geotextile and Gabions

The work included:
-
- ground leveling;
-
- sub-base preparation;
-
- installation of a geotextile membrane over the entire surface;
-
- implementation of a durable mineral finish.
This solution offers several advantages:
-
- limitation of weed growth;
-
- reduced maintenance;
-
- excellent durability;
-
- modern and professional appearance;
-
- enhancement of the company’s image.
A Complete Transformation of the Site Entrance
After the bamboo eradication and landscaping work, IMALC’s front area was completely transformed.
The old plant bed, overgrown with bamboo, has been replaced by a clean, uniform, and easy-to-maintain mineral space. The result now offers a neat finish while eliminating the constraints associated with maintaining an invasive hedge.
Why Call a Company Specializing in Bamboo Eradication?
Bamboos may seem easy to remove when cut at the surface. In reality, the rhizomes remain active in the soil and continue to grow for several years.
Sustainable eradication requires:
-
- precise identification of the colonized area;
-
- rhizome extraction;
-
- monitoring for potential new shoots;
-
- restoration adapted to the future use of the land.
This approach ensures a reliable and lasting result.
